Organization: Partners for Youth with DIsabilities
Grants: $189,375
Years: 1994-2012
One of Mitsubishi Electric's longest lasting, continuous community relationships is with Partners for Youth with Disabilities (PYD) in Boston, Mass. Since 1994, PYD has received matching community grant support from Mitsubishi Electric Research Labs based in Cambridge, Mass., as well as a series of National Grants from the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation (MEAF), including the current Mentoring for All grant project.
PYD is the premier organization that ensures that people with disabilities have an opportunity to participate in mentoring experienes, both as a mentee and a mentor. Over the years, MEAF has supported PYD's Mentoring On-Line initiative, and the development of the National Mentoring Center, which created a Best Practices Mentoring Guide.
Project Results
PYD has been instrumental in mentoring other organizations as they develop successful methods to include people with disabilities, including MEAF-funded programs with City Year, Disabled Sports USA, and the latest effort with Big Brother Big Sisters.
